Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju Calls On Congress Chief

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday, a week ahead of the first session of the new Lok Sabha.

Mr Rijiju met Mr Kharge at the Congress chief's 10, Rajaji Marg residence in what was said to be a courtesy call.

The minister later shared a picture of the meeting in a post on X.

"I had a pleasant courtesy meeting with Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress party president Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji. He shared with me about many valuable experiences of his life. Together, we all will work for the nation," he said in the post.

Assuming charge of the ministry last week, Mr Rijiju had said there was no need for the government or the opposition to pull each other down on the basis of numerical strength and asserted that he would reach out to everyone for smooth functioning of Parliament.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24 during which new members of the Lower House will take oath and the speaker elected.

President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on June 27 and is likely to outline the new government's roadmap for the next five years.

The session will conclude on July 3.

The first three days of the session will see the newly-elected MPs taking oath and electing the speaker of the Lower House.

Both Houses of Parliament are expected to reconvene in the third week of July for the presentation of the Union Budget.

"Murabba Bana Diya": Ex-PCB Chief's Rant As Pakistan Commit Age-Old Blunder

The Pakistan cricket team's second successive capitulation in an ICC World Cup has been receiving quite the flak. After an early exit from the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan were eliminated from the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. What was even more disheartening for a Pakistan fan was that the team went out after losses against USA and India. Against the latter, Pakistan came close but could not make full use of a commanding situation.

Ramiz Raja, former Pakistan cricket team captain and ex-Pakistan Cricket Board chief, lost his cool while decoding the side's poor show.

"Aapne choon-choon ka murabba bana diya hai iss team ko (you have turned this team into a mixture of varied things)," Raja said on hi YouTube channel.

"You brought back old, retired players so that somehow you save your face in the T20 World Cup...(you) let some of the good talent slip away just because this is a World Cup and it requires experience, we have to bring back retired players, even if they have bitched about the captain."

Raja went on to say that this was an age-old blunder by the Pakistan team.

"Aise thodi team chalti hai. Yeh pehle bhi humne kar ke dekh liya tha (the team doesn't work that way; we have tried this before)," Ramiz said. "I think it was the 2003 World Cup. We gathered all the super stars in that team thinking that experience will come handy. But those were ageing stars, and Pakistan couldn't be saved. We got beaten badly there as well."

"You have to see who to play, what is the captain's role. Unless you allow the leadership to flourish in this environment, let them take decision, introduce discipline and merit, and not try to run it (the team) from the sidelines, unless you have the cricket IQ and thinking and take good decisions morally and cricket-wise, until that time it's almost impossible for this team to get back up on its legs," Ramiz said.

"You will now find sacrificial lambs to save your place. That's not how you run cricket."

Live: England Fear Elimination As Rain Delays Start Of Game vs Namibia

Namibia vs England Live Updates, T20 World Cup: Heavy rain has delayed the toss for England's crucial game against Namibia at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua on Saturday. This is a must-win game for defending champions England. They are at the third spot in the Group B points table with three points from as many games. They need to beat Namibia to stay alive in the Super Eight race. If England win this game, they will be needing Scotland, who have 5 points, to lose their final group game which is against Australia. In such a case, England will advance to the next stage as they have a better net run rate than Scotland. It is worth noting that if the Namibia vs England game is washed out, Scotland will enter the Super Eight. (Live Scorecard | Points Table)

"You're Just Like The Media If...": Shaheen Begs Support From Pak Fans

The wash out of USA and Ireland's Group A match turned out to be a major heartbreak for Pakistan as the Babar Azam-led side got eliminated from the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. With only two points from three matches, Pakistan have one game left against Ireland and the maximum they get is a total of four points. With Pakistan's elimination, World Cup debutants USA, who have got five points, have sealed a Supers 8s berth, along with India.

Earlier before the match between USA and Ireland, Pakistan pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded fans and supporters of the Pakistan cricket team to support them through the difficult phases during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Speaking in an interview to YouTube channel Crickwick, Afridi said, "Everyone supports you in good times, but I've always said that fans must support us in tough times."

"We are not a gully cricket team. This is your Pakistan team as well. If you can't support us during these times, you're just like the media," added Afridi.

Afridi's form has dwindled in recent months, with many fans doubting whether his speed has dropped. Afridi refuted the claims.

'I've always been a bowler who bowled 136-140 kph at the start, and I'm still doing so," he said. "When a bowler picks up wickets, everyone speaks well, but when he doesn't, all the negative things are said," said Afridi.

Pakistan are staring at a group stage elimination from the 2024 T20 World Cup. They were shocked by hosts USA in a dramatic contest that went to the Super Over, before losing against India despite being in a comfortable position for most of the game.

At G7, PM's First Face-To-Face Meeting With Trudeau Amid Khalistan Row

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met a host of world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit here in the southern resort town of Italy.

"It's always a pleasure to meet @POTUS @JoeBiden. India and USA will keep working together to further global good," Modi said in a post on X along with some photographs of their interaction.

PM Modi also met Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau at the G7 Summit.

This was their first face-to-face meeting after Trudeau claimed that the Indian government agents were involved in the killing of a Khalistani separatist in Canada last year. Canada has arrested four Indian nationals in connection with the case.

The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Trudeau's allegations. India has dismissed Trudeau's charges as "absurd" and "motivated." "Pleased to meet @UN Secretary General, Mr. @antonioguterres in Italy," Modi said in a post on X.

Prime Minister Modi had a "good meeting" with UN chief Guterres, his office said.

PM Modi also met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Brazil President Lula da Silva and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

"The interactions in Italy continue...Delightful conversation with President @LulaOficial, President @RTErdogan and His Highness Sheikh @MohamedBinZayed," PM Modi posted along on X with a photo with them.

PM Modi had a "wonderful conversation" with the three leaders, the PMO said.

He also met Jordan's King Abdullah II on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. "India values the strong ties with Jordan," he said.

Besides India, Italy invited leaders from 11 developing countries in Africa, South America and the Indo-Pacific region to attend the G7 Summit.
