Three Dead In Australia After Plane Crashes In "Difficult Terrain"

Three people in Australia have died after a small plane crashed while helping fight fires near Mount Isa, in Queensland's north-west. According to 9News, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon. An emergency crew was called after the firefighting jet fell in difficult terrain near Mount Isa. "Three people on board were located and confirmed deceased," a Queensland Police spokesperson said in a statement.

According to 9News, police from Mount Isa and a rescue helicopter were initially sent to the crash site, which cops said was in a difficult terrain. The officers made it to the site in the evening and confirmed the three firefighters onboard the aircraft were dead. The paramedics said that the crash was "unsurvivable".

Following the incident, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) issued a statement offering their deepest condolences to the families of those onboard. They also confirmed that the aircraft had been contracted to support the Queensland bushfire response.

According to ABC Australia, the small aircraft was redeploying from Toowoomba to Mount Isa to conduct line scans, or infra-red mapping, when it crashed. Cops believe that those onboard were mapping areas of recent bushfire activity in western Queensland and gathering vital terrain data for use during bushfire emergencies.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in a statement the state was in shock. "I'm deeply saddened to hear the news that an aerial firefighting crew have lost their lives after their plane went down north-west of McKinlay," she said, as per the outlet. "The crew onboard this aircraft have been doing everything they could to keep Queenslanders safe. I send my heartfelt condolences to the many people who have been impacted by this shocking incident," she added.

Woman Falls Out Of Window, Man Sustains Injures After Dog Attack In UK

A man and a woman in the United Kingdom were seriously injured after a suspected American bully XL attack. According to The Independent,  the incident took place on Friday in Mansfield. Police believe that the woman fell from the window of a flat where the attack began. The pair were taken to hospital with serious injuries after officers responded to reports that the dog was still "on the loose". The injuries sustained are not believed to be life-threatening, the outlet reported.

Following the incident, the dog thought to be a bully XL type was seized from a nearby property and taken to secure kennels. Nottinghamshire Police said that they currently believe that the woman, whose identity hasn't been revealed, fell from the window of a flat after being attacked by the dog.

A 38-year-old man and 24-year-old woman have been arrested, officers added, as per the BBC. The duo have been held on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. An investigation is still ongoing to establish the full circumstance, cops said.

Meanwhile, this incident comes after the UK government announced XL bully dogs will be banned from the end of this year after a surge in deadly attacks. The breed has been added to the list of prohibited dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act. therefore, from 1 February next year, it will be illegal to own one, unless the owner has successfully applied for it to be exempt.

According to The Independent, owners will face a criminal record and an unlimited fine after that date unless their dog is on an exemption list and they comply with strict requirements, such as microchipping and neutering their pets. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had pledged last month that the breed would be added to the Dangerous Dogs Act list by the end of the year, calling it a "danger to our communities".

Meanwhile, in a similar incident, a 10-month-old baby in the United Kingdom was seriously injured after being attacked by a normally "loving and affectionate" family dog last month. Police said that the animal, a Cane Corso X, savaged the baby at a property in Hoyland, Barnsley, after he started to cry.

At the time, the baby's family said that their dog had never shown any signs of aggression before the horrifying incident. According to them, the animal is normally "pleasant" and "affectionate" with children. However, the family added that the dog may have become stressed by fireworks being set off in the local area.

KCR vs DK Shivakumar On "Letter" To Move Foxconn AirPods Unit To Karnataka

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday engaged in a spat over a purported letter by the Congress leader to Foxconn chairman to shift the Apple AirPods manufacturing unit from Hyderabad to Karnataka.

KCR alleged that Dk Shivakumar wrote to several national and international companies in Hyderabad to shift their factories to Karnataka.

Mr Shivakumar rubbished the charge saying that the letter based on which KCR made the allegation was fake. He also got an FIR registered at Vidhana Soudha police station against the creator of the fake letter.

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) today accused the Karnataka government, specifically Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, of conspiring against Hyderabad.

"Karnataka Congress government has hatched a huge conspiracy against Hyderabad. Big conspiracy by Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar to move national and international companies from Hyderabad to Karnataka," the BRS said in Telugu on its "X" handle.

The BRS alleged that the letters were written to many companies offering incentives to come to Bengaluru.

"DK Shivakumar wrote a letter to the CEO of the company to move the Foxconn company that manufactures Apple AirPods from Hyderabad to 'Bangalore'. Kannada media released that letter," the message on "X" said.

The party alleged that Kannada and English media have reported that the conspiracy to move companies is real.

"For elections, they have targeted Hyderabad. The Congress government in Karnataka is plotting to shift industries from Telangana to Bengaluru. Let's reverse the conspiracies of Congress. Let's bring back our KCR government which has Telangana Pride," the BRS said.

The party also posted the purported letter written by DK Shivakumar with a green stamp of the Government of Karnataka on top of it, to Young Liu, the chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Limited (Foxconn Technology Group).

Besides asking Young Liu to invest in Karnataka, the letter read, "On behalf of our government, I propose that you consider relocating the Apple AirPods industry, which you plan to set up in Hyderabad to 'Bangalore'."

"This move holds numerous mutual benefits. Not only it will complement the Apple phone manufacturing industry, but it will also leverage the city's transportation facilities, infrastructure, and available workforce," it further said.

The letter said several international industries in Hyderabad have expressed interest in relocating to Bengaluru.

"We anticipate forming a friendly government in Telangana soon, assuring that you will encounter no hindrances there. Hence, it would be mutually beneficial for your ancillary industry to make the move as well," it added.

DK Shivakumar hit back at Mr Rao for his accusations.

"Today the Telangana Chief Minister had a press conference. He is very scared. He has accepted the defeat of his party," the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister said.

He said Mr Rao posted a fake letter on the micro-blogging site and commented on it.

"It is a fake letter. My letter has different characteristics. My letter has numbers. My letterhead will not be in green colour. It is an ordinary legislator's letter which MLAs used to use some 15 years ago. No MLA is using green-coloured letterhead now. I know that," DK Shivakumar underlined.

According to him, MLAs do not use green-coloured letterhead in the Karnataka assembly.

Seeing a conspiracy of the BRS, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "I don't know why these BRS people stooped to such a level and the chief minister is commenting on it."

DK Shivakumar, who is also Congress Karnataka president, said he has asked his secretary to lodge a police complaint at the Vidhana Soudha police station.

"Someone has misused (signature). They have taken my electronic signature and put it on that (letter) requesting Foxconn to be shifted," he claimed.

"It is very unfortunate but the investigation will go on. It was a fake letter. We have not issued such a type of letter," he said.

According to DK Shivakumar, many multinational companies on their own have shown a willingness to invest in Karnataka "looking at this strong government".

In this context, he said he had a meeting with the Toyota executives who wanted to expand their business in Bangalore.

Lamenting the development, he said, "Our Telangana counterpart need not have to be involved in such a small... I am very sorry for that."

Nurse Charged With Killing Patients With Insulin Admits To 17 More Murders

Heather Pressdee, a nurse in the US state of Pennsylvania, previously charged with causing the deaths of two patients through excessive insulin doses, now faces further legal action. This comes after her confession to attempting to harm 19 people across various rehabilitation centers where she was employed.

Ms Pressdee, 41, had been allegedly administering excessive insulin to these patients since 2020, regardless of their diabetic status, resulting in the tragic deaths of 17 of those patients.

Attorney General Michelle Henry has filed new charges against her, including two counts of first-degree murder, 17 counts of attempted murder, and 19 counts of neglect of care-dependent individuals, all linked to the 19 patients she is accused of mistreating. The victims are aged between 43 and 104.

“The allegations against Ms Pressdee are disturbing. It is hard to comprehend how a nurse, trusted to care for her patients, could choose to deliberately and systematically harm them,” said Attorney General Henry.

“The damage done to the victims and their loved ones cannot be overstated. Every person in a medical or care facility should feel safe and cared for, and my office will work tirelessly to hold the defendant accountable for her crimes and protect care-dependent Pennsylvanians from future harm,” the Attorney General added.

Ms Pressdee had previously been charged in May for mistreating three patients, two of whom died. This increases the total number of patients she is accused of mistreating to 22.

She is facing different charges based on the evidence available. She is charged with first-degree murder when there is concrete physical evidence linking her to the cause of death. She is charged with attempted murder for the cases where victims survived or in which the exact cause of death could not be determined.

Ms Pressdee has opted not to have a preliminary hearing and is in custody at Butler County Prison in a Pennsylvania without bail.

Dravid Names Two India Stars Who Have 'Gone Slightly Unnoticed' In WC 2023

Rahul Dravid has always been big on data but when it comes to judging Ravindra Jadeja's exceptional performance, the Indian coach looks more at situational impact rather than dry statistics that reveal less and conceal more. Jadeja has scored 81 runs in three innings and taken nine wickets in 55.3 overs with an economy rate of 3.78. These are very solid figures without being exceptional like the 400-plus runs from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli or the 29 wickets that Jasprit Bumrah (15 in seven games) and Mohammed Shami (14 in three games) have shared between them. "It's been exceptional. I think, you know, Jadeja, someone, if you look at the numbers, we look at stats, we look at data, we look at it quite a lot. I mean, he has been exceptional in this tournament," Dravid said when asked about someone like Jadeja's contribution.

"Because of how good our seamers have been and how fantastic it has been to watch them upfront, the performances of people like Jaddu (Jadeja) and Kuldeep (Yadav) have probably gone slightly unnoticed," said Dravid as he tried to put things in context.

A timely 39 not out against New Zealand in a tricky chase, 35 that took India past the 350-run mark versus Sri Lanka and tying Australia in knots in the opening game, Jadeja has been the 'impact player' for India in this campaign.

Give him a situation and the Super King from Chennai is almost sure to come up trumps.

"Sometimes even having to bowl with a slightly wetter ball, because the ball has been slightly wet. Just the kind of control that he's given us through the middle, the way the control he's given Rohit has been sensational," said Dravid.

Jadeja has changed his bowling and is now landing the ball more on the seam to get purchase and also hitting one area consistently.

"And just the areas he's bowled as well, I think every metric point tells us that he's up there with anyone in this tournament in terms of just the areas he's been able to hit, the speeds he's been able to bowl at. And there's a lot of good conversations around the group in our bowlers' meetings with him," said the coach of his senior player.

Dravid feels that Jadeja is now in a phase where he knows exactly what he wants from himself.

"Just to see him in that kind of relaxed space and very clear about what he wants to do and what he wants to achieve. And just having that confidence to do that consistently over and over again has been fantastic." Dravid spoke about the two innings that he has played so far.

"When you're batting in the top three, you know that every single game you're going to get an opportunity to play. Sometimes at six and seven, you're not really sure when you're going to get a chance. Or even sometimes you won't even get a game. Or you won't even get a hit like they haven't for the first two or three games, the way we batted.

"He's (Jadeja) just come in and played critical knocks. Even the last one, he was able to really give us that little bit of a flip, a nice little 30 there. And so that's really good. And then his fielding is incredible, to have someone like him at point and taking some of the catches that he has. So really great all-around package for us, and someone who's really had a fantastic tournament. A little bit, maybe, gone under the radar a bit," the coach added.

Fake China Doctor Tricks Cancer Patient Into "Cement Treatment"

A self-proclaimed "tumour research institute" in China is under investigation after a woman exposed how her cancer-stricken mother was duped into paying a staggering 200,000 yuan (approximately Rs 22.76 lakh) for treatments that include bloodletting and even applying cement to her skin.

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the woman, surnamed Wang, learned that her mother had been diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer at the end of 2021. Soon after diagnosis, the two women were introduced to a traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Wuhan, who claimed to specialise in treating cancer. They travelled to meet the man, surnamed Yu, at his Dongyusanbao Tumour Research Institute, where he told them he had invented a medicine that could kill cancer cells.

According to Ms Wang, Mr Yu went to great lengths to convince the two women, showcasing what appeared to be credible patent documents and prestigious awards certificates for his cancer treatment.

Filled with hope, Ms Wang's mother immediately purchased the first batch of liquid medication from Mr Yu at a cost of 20,000 yuan (US$2,700), which he assured was a simple oral remedy. Over the course of a year, Ms Wang said she and her mother flew to Wuhan from their home in northeastern Liaoning province six times. This journey took a severe financial toll, with the total expenditure racing over 200,000 yuan.

Moreover, in addition to giving the elderly woman oral medication, Mr Yu also made dozens of injections into her breasts to make her lose blood, Ms Wang said, as per the outlet. He bizarrely also told the woman to apply a mixture of cement and lime skin under her armpits, claiming that it would aid in shrinking the cancerous lumps.

"He told my mother to apply cement mixed with lime on the skin under her armpits, saying this could help shrink lumps. My mother followed his instructions but her skin festered after doing it for two months," Ms Wang said.

However, in April this year, Ms Wang's mother's condition deteriorated and local doctors told her that the cancer cells had spread across her body. But Mr Yu insisted that was normal and even told them not to worry. He even convinced the woman to continue drinking his medicine. However, this ultimately led to the mother's death in June, Ms Wang said.

According to SCMP, Mr Yu later confessed that neither he nor his institute have any medical qualifications. "I am not practising medicine. I just sold them health-enhancing products. My method of bloodletting is aimed at promoting good health, it is not acupuncture," Mr Yu said. He also confessed that the certificates and documents he had shown the two women were, in fact, bought online for a few thousand yuan. The authorities are now still investigating the bizarre case.
