What Virat Kohli Has To Say About Pakistan Bowlers Ahead Of Asia Cup Clash

The time for an India vs Pakistan battle in the Asia Cup has arrived, with the two Asian giants set to square-off in the group stage of the tournament. More often than not, the event is dubbed as a contest between Pakistan's bowling and India's batting. Just like the cricketing universe, even India's batting talisman Virat Kohli is in awe of Pakistan's bowling attack. He Kohli feels one has to be at his absolute best to face a high-quality bowling attack like Pakistan's. The Indians have won their last three ODIs against Pakistan but the last one was played during the 2019 World Cup.

“I feel bowling is their strength. And they've got some really impactful bowlers that can change the course of the game anytime based on their skill set. So, you have to be at your absolute best to face them,” he told Star Sports ahead of the start of India's Asia Cup campaign.

Kohli has been in decent form in ODIs lately, having scripted 554 runs in 13 matches in the format since last December at a commendable average of 50.36. Talking about his approach lately, Kohli said, “I only try to understand how I can better my game. Every day, every practice session, every year, every season, this is what has helped me play this well for so long and to perform for my team.

"I don't think you can perform consistently without that mindset because if your performance is your only goal, then you can be satisfied and stop working hard. There is no limit to it.

"There is no set achievement that if you reach a certain stage, you've reached excellence. I think I strive for betterment every day, so that is a better word to use, and yes, performance obviously becomes a by-product because your mindset is ‘How do I make my team win from this position?'"

"Don't Think If Any Other Batter...": Pakistan Star's Big Praise For Kohli

The Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan is just round the corner and a lot of eyes will be on Virat Kohli who has been a star performer in this contest over the years. With the two teams not playing bilateral series for nearly a decade, the only chance that fans have of seeing these two rivals face each other is at continental or International Cricket Council (ICC) events. Pakistan cricket team spinner Shadab Khan was all praise for Kohli ahead of the much-anticipated clash and said that bowler need to have proper plans while facing a batter of his caliber.

In a recent interaction, he also recalled Kohli's match-winning knock in the 2022 T20 World Cup and said that no other batter could have played that way against the Pakistan bowling attack.

"He (Kohli) is a world-class player, definitely. You have to plan a lot to face him," Shadab told Star Sports on the sidelines of the tournament.

Kohli slammed an unbeaten 53-ball 82-run knock against Pakistan in a group match of the ICC T20 World Cup at Melbourne last year to guide India to a convincing four-wicket win over their arch-rivals.

Recalling that knock, Shadab said, "The kind of batsman that Virat Kohli is, the way he has performed against us, even in the last match at the (2022 T20) World Cup, I don't think that if any other batsman in the world was in that situation, could have done that to our bowling line-up."

"And, the beauty of it is that he can do this at any stage and at any time."

Vivek Ramaswamy's Big Offer For Russia If It Exits China Military Alliance

To address the growing challenge posed by China, it is important not to let Russia fall into Beijing's lap, Indian-American Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said on Thursday, asserting that if elected, he would achieve this goal by offering a "deal" with Moscow.

Mr Ramaswamy told Fox News that as a US president, he would offer to freeze the current lines of control between Ukraine and Russia, make a hard commitment that NATO will not admit Ukraine into it and lift sanctions. In return, Russia would have to exit its military alliance with China, he said.

“Very clear vision. I would do a deal that (Vladimir) Putin would say yes to but that actually advances American interests so that the United States wins. Here's what I would do,” Mr Ramaswamy said when asked how he would stop the war in Ukraine.

“I would freeze the current lines of control. I would further make a hard commitment that NATO will not admit Ukraine to NATO. That's enough to get Putin to do the deal. But I will require something even greater in return,” the 38-year-old multimillionaire biotech entrepreneur said.

“Russia has to exit its military alliances with China. Right now, we're pushing Russia further into China's hands. The Russia-China military alliance is the single greatest threat that the United States faces today. And so just as Nixon did it in 1972, I'll do it in reverse," Mr Ramaswamy said.

"Pull Russia apart from China, and by the way, get Russia to also remove its military presence in the Western Hemisphere. Get out of the Western Hemisphere. Reopen economic relations with Russia, that's how we do it,” he added.

The Indian-American presidential aspirant said the reason why China is more valuable today is because the US has wrongfully cut off Russia from the West by bombing the Nord Stream one and two pipelines and also sanctioning Russia.

“So if we can reopen the Western economic relations with Russia, Russia has less of a reason to be in partnership with China. There are also cracks in the armour of that relationship if you look closely,” he said.

“Russia actually sent weapons both to India and to Vietnam, both of which border China. They are sending a signal that China wants to build a railroad in northeast China to get to the ocean. Russia won't let them. So there are cracks in that armour now,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, another Indian-origin Republican presidential candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley slammed Mr Ramaswamy for his comments that he was against using US military force against Iran.

“We will not stop Israel from defending itself to the fullest capacity. And we remain supportive of Israel because they are our friend,” Mr Ramaswamy had told the Israel Hayom.

“I think it's really important that the US not put our own men and women on the line in a war with Iran, when in fact, there's no reason for us to be in that kind of war now, and I don't think that's good for the United States, and I don't think that's good for Israel. But what we do need to do is to make sure that Israel is strong so that Iran isn't emboldened,” Mr Ramaswamy told the Israeli newspaper.

"Vivek must have missed that the fanatical terrorist regime in Iran regularly calls for ‘Death to America,'" Haley said in a statement.

"If he doesn't see a nuclear Iran as a threat to American security, then he should take his place beside AOC and the Squad and get nowhere near the White House,” she said, referring to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a group of eight Democratic members of the US House of Representatives known as the Squad.

Students Told To Give 'No Torn Jeans' Undertaking By Kolkata College

Kolkata-based AJC Bose College students described their principal's instruction to sign an affidavit with the declaration that they will not wear torn or artificially torn jeans to college as a diktat interfering with their freedom of expression.

Students said they were "upset" with the college authorities and that such a move was unwarranted.

"We are upset with the principal's order. This is a diktat and interferes with our freedom to dress," Ajay Sinhotra, a student of the college, said.

Another student Rimmi Jamal said, "People should be allowed to wear ripped jeans. I protest against such an order." Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College principal Purna Chandra Maity said students "must wear normal civil dresses" and he would allow any indecent outfit.

The affidavit that students were asked to sign said, "Having been admitted to Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College, I will never enter inside college premises wearing torn/artificially torn jeans or any kind of indecent dress. I do hereby affirm that I shall wear normal civil dresses during my study period inside the entire college premises." Incidentally, last year a similar advisory was issued for students and staff of the same college asking them not to wear torn or distressed jeans.

The principal said the move to sign the affidavit was "to enforce strict discipline in the institute".

"Expose Kohli...": WC Winner On Where India-Pakistan Contest Will Be Won

The cricket world is waiting with baited breath for the mega India vs Pakistan coach at the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka on Saturday. The match will be a closely watched affair as will be the individual performance Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma ahead of the Cricket World Cup. The performance in the Asia Cup 2023 will be a great indicator of where the form of the players lie ahead of the Cricket World Cup. Brad Hogg, former Cricket World Cup-winning Australian leg spinner, believes the contest between Shaheen Shah Afridi and the Indian cricket team top order will decide the fate of the marquee India vs Pakistan clash.

India will play their opening match against Pakistan on September 2 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Hogg said that he would be watching the star-studded clash and the contest could be decided between India's experienced batters and Pakistan's fast-bowling prowess.

"I definitely will be watching it. It is one of the biggest contests that we can have. Look, politics gets in the way of sports everywhere. It's here in Australia, England everywhere. We are just missing the rivalry between the two countries on the cricket field. It will be better for Pakistan as well because they will get the exposure. We want those contests to happen. India has a more dominant batting. Pakistan with their pace attack has a slight advantage, especially with left arm Shaheen Afridi. He is a quality bowler. When you have a left-arm fast bowler who swings the ball with pace and gets them to come in for the right-handers it does make it difficult," said Hogg on Backstage with Boria.

On being asked to comment on the battle between Shaheen Shah Afridi and Rohit Sharma, Hogg said, "I think Shaheen will have a chance with the deliveries that come in against right-handers. If Pakistan can expose Virat Kohli early in the contest against the new ball in front of Shaheen Afridi. The contest between Shaheen against the Indian top three will be decisive. So, for me, that's going to be where the game will be won and lost between India and Pakistan."

Watch: Did Babar Invoke 'Chak De India' Spirit To Pump Up Pakistan Side?

Pakistan cricket team climbed of the top of ODI rankings after winning their three-match series against Afghanistan 3-0. The victory came at a brilliant time for the side as they geared up for the Asia Cup 2023 where they will face long-time rivals India. Following Pakistan's win over Afghanistan in the third T20I encounter, Babar gave a speech to the team about unity and taking responsibility. In a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Babar could be seen motivating his teammates and he told them that the success for the side came because of all of their hard work and the fact that their hearts were pure.

“Today we are No. 1 just because of our hard work. We went through a lot of ups and downs but the unity of this team is intact. ‘Har bande ka dil saaf hai'(Every guy's heart is pure). No one is thinking like, ‘He did this, why didn't I?'. Everyone is happy with everyone else's performance and this should stay like this,” Babar said.

“Our bowling will win us the match on some days, on others, our batting will win it. We won't say ‘this department is doing this, that department isn't'. We'll only talk like a team. ‘Main, mera… Ye Nahi Hoga. Hum… ye team hum hain, koi individual nahi hai [There will be no ‘I' but only ‘we'],” he added.

In the video, Babar looked to further inspire his team that had just claimed the No. 1 spot in ICC ODI Rankings, having beaten Afghanistan 3-0 in the series.

The speech had shades of Shah Rukh Khan's speech from the 2007 Bollywood film 'Chak De India' where he focused on team unity. In the dialogues, Shah Rukh Khan, who played the character of the coach of the Indian women's hockey team, asked players to play for the country and not themselves.

World Athletics Gold Done, 90m Mark Eludes Neeraj. Star Opens Up On Target

The hunt for the 90-meter throw goes on as Neeraj fell a little short of the mark in the World Athletics Championships 2023 despite clinching the elusive Gold medal. After starting off the final with a foul throw, Neeraj made amends in the following throws, but could only manage the maximum distance of 88.17 meters in his second attempt. Though the effort was good enough to keep his lead intact till the very end to clinch the gold, Neeraj remains unsatisfied with the throw, although elated with the fact that he was able to add another medal to his trophy cabinet.

Arshad Nadeem, the Commonwealth Games champion with 87.82 m bagged a silver medal while Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch secured the bronze with a best throw of 86.67 m.

Neeraj who looked a bit disappointed told reporters in the post-match conference, "I wanted to throw more than 90m tonight. But it needs all parts of the puzzle to be there. I couldn't put it all together this evening. Maybe next time."

Although the 25-year-old took the lead in the second round which remained untouched throughout the final, he still yearned to break his own mark and take it further in his final throw.

"After the second round, I was thinking of pushing myself because I knew that I could get a better throw. But there is a lot of pressure on technique and speed. We have to push a lot in the qualifying round. There was only a single day for recovery so it was also a big factor. I go forward with the motivation of pushing myself till the last throw," Neeraj said.

The Tokyo Olympic gold medallist wasn't the only Indian competing in the final, Kishore Jena (best of 84.77 m) and DP Manu (best of 84.14 m) were also in the mix and finished fifth and sixth respectively.

This was Neeraj's second medal at the World Championships after he secured a silver in 2022. Previously, Anju Bobby George had bagged the bronze for the country in the 2003 World Championships for the women's long jump. He has also bagged gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and the Asian Games 2018.

Neeraj will be back on the field in the Asian Games, Hangzhou which is scheduled from September 23 to October 8. This competition will mark the final major competition of this year for the 25-year-old javelin thrower.

"I was hung upside down by a rope around my legs. I had three small children with me, they were also beaten up. We are their neighbors. We are from a lower caste (Mahar). They were angry... They peed on us. We were asked to lick shoes on which they had spat," said Shubham Maghade, who later filed a complaint with the police.

The 20-year-old has also named his attackers -- Pappu Parkhe, Raju Borge, Yuvraj Galande and Nana Patil.  He said the men came and took him to the house of Yuvraj Galande, where they were stripped and beaten up.

India Great Against Tilak Varma Debut In World Cup. Explains Why

Tilak Varma has been a breath of fresh air in the Indian cricket team. He is left-handed and has shown the right intent in the middle-order in the few matches that he has played for the Indian T20I team. The result of that is that he has been rewarded with a spot in India's Asia Cup squad. However, with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer also being selected, Varma might not get many chances in the Indian team's playing XI. The 20-year-old Tilak has so far played seven T20Is, scored 174 runs. In 25 List A matches, he has scored 1236 runs at an average of 56.18.

Though he is already being spoken of as a World Cup squad material too. 1983 World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth feels he should not be given debut in big events.

"Do not give Tilak Varma debut in a big tournament, play him in the ODI series before that," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel Cheeky Cheeka.

"Tilak has fantastic potential, a brilliant player - but he has to play a couple of one-day series before putting him in the WC squad. We need to groom him properly," he added.

Former India cricketer and BCCI selector, Saba Karim feels Tilak's selection alone shows the confidence the selectors and team management have in him

At times, the selectors and the team management can back a player after what they have seen in the ground. There's no harm in picking a player from T20 format to One-day format. One should also not forget that Tilak has had some kind of experience in List A matches," he said on Jio Cinema.

9/11 Victims' Families Split Over Proposal to Spare Suspects' Lives

A proposal to allow alleged perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks to plead guilty and avoid the death penalty poses a powerful dilemma for victims' families, some of whom still want to seek the ultimate retribution after two decades of legal limbo.

The proposal detailed by prosecutors in a letter this month could offer families of the nearly 3,000 victims the best path to a resolution of a case bogged down in pre-trial maneuverings in the Guantanamo military commissions for years -- and with no end in sight.

For some families of those killed in New York's World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania say a deal without a trial could mean the entire truth about what happened on September 11, 2001 might never be told.

Others say that every year of delay means that more people pass away without seeing justice for their slain relatives -- and increases the risk that the aging defendants themselves could die without ever being found guilty.

"All 9/11 family members want justice and accountability. Too many of us have died in the last two decades without either," said September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, which backs the plea deal.

"Plea agreements, which could be made right now, would offer finality: an end to the 9/11 military commission, clear admissions of guilt, and life sentences without parole or any possibility of appeal," they said.

But Dennis McGinley of the group 9/11 Justice said the deal would leave untold the full story behind the attack that killed his brother Danny in the south tower of the World Trade Center.

"All this is, is... to prevent a trial from taking place where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is going to have to spill the beans," he said, referring to the self-described 9/11 mastermind also known as "KSM."

Evidence tainted by torture

The deal, outlined in an August 1 letter from the office of the chief prosecutor for the Pentagon-run military tribunals, has been in preparation for two years in the case of KSM, Ammar al-Baluchi, Walid bin Attash, Ramzi bin al-Shibh and Mustafa al-Hawsawi.

Each has been held for more than 16 years at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they are among the last 30 of what was once nearly 800 people detained extrajudicially by the United States after 9/11.

They were formally arraigned in 2012 for the case, but since the beginning it has been mired in debates over prosecutors' intent to use evidence that defense attorneys say was extracted through systematic torture at the hands of the CIA.

The letter implicitly acknowledges that prosecutors cannot say when a full trial would begin, if ever.

In the proposed deal, the accused "would accept criminal responsibility for their actions and plead guilty to the charged offenses in exchange for not receiving the death penalty," the letter said.

It said the defendants would have to agree to a "stipulation of facts," which would provide details of the September 11 plot and their roles in it.

While the prosecutors said no deal was finalized, the letter was confirmation that such an arrangement appears to be where the case is heading.

And, indeed, the prospect of more delays sharpened last week when a military judge in a separate Guantanamo case rejected torture-tainted confessions.

Failed system

Dropping the death penalty in the case though could spark an emotional backlash not only from victims' families but from Americans across the country, where anger remains deep over the Al-Qaeda attack.

"Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9/11 perpetrators should never be given a plea deal and should face the full measure of justice for their actions -- the death penalty," said New York Congressman Mike Lawler, criticizing President Joe Biden for the deal.

But Terry Rockefeller, of the Peaceful Tomorrows group, said the deal is the best chance for families to get closure, with the certainty that defendants will have no ability to appeal.

Rockefeller, whose sister died in the World Trade Center, said that in private meetings earlier this year, prosecutors had no answer when asked how long a trial might take.

"The military commissions have by and large been a failed system," she said.

Moreover, she said, "no trial is going to lead to a death penalty because of the torture issue."

McGinley said the type of punishment didn't matter to him at this point.

"Whether it's the death penalty or life in prison, I want whatever the terrorists don't want," he said.

But he argued that a settlement will allow the government to keep information classified about the attacks -- information he said would implicate Saudi Arabia more deeply in the carnage.

Riyadh has long denied any links with the hijackers, but suspicions have lingered over whether the attacks were funded with Saudi money, and McGinley's group alleges that Saudi agents were involved in various ways.

He thinks a trial - with all evidence declassified - would be the best chance for families to get justice after two decades of waiting.

"The 9/11 community has been getting used and abused by our government for the last 22 years. At this point, it's almost cruel and unusual punishment," he said.

Gunman Kills Three In Florida, Driven By Racial 'Hate': Police

A gunman driven by racial hate shot and killed three Black people in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday before fatally turning the gun on himself, authorities said.

The shooter, a white male in his early 20s, was outfitted with a tactical vest and armed with an AR-style rifle and a handgun when he started firing inside a Dollar General discount store, Sheriff TK Waters said.

"He targeted a certain group of people and that's Black people. That's what he said he wanted to kill. And that's very clear," the sheriff said, adding there were two male victims and one female victim.

Manifestos discovered by the gunman's family shortly before the attack "detail the shooter's disgusting ideology of hate," Sheriff Waters told a news conference.

The FBI would investigate the shooting as a hate crime, said Sherri Onks, the bureau's special agent for Jacksonville.

The shooting was the latest in a spate of gun violence this weekend in the United States, following deadly outbursts in Boston, Chicago and Oklahoma.

Mr Singh, from Bhanglan Khera village in Rupnagar district, somehow got trapped between the tyres of his vehicle and the speeding truck dragged the tractor for approximately 500 metres, they said.

"The incident was so tragic that the victim's body parts were scattered in different directions. Subsequently, the truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle," a police official said.

Angry locals, led by Sukhdev's father Jaswinder Singh staged a protest with the victim's body, which disrupted traffic for six hours.

The protestors demanded the arrest of the accused. Later, they lifted their dharna after SP Manoj Singh pacified them.

7 Injured In Mass Shooting At Caribbean Festival In Boston: Police

At least seven people were hospitalized after a mass shooting at a Caribbean festival in Boston early Saturday, the police said.

None of the seven had life-threatening injuries, they added.

"Firearms have been recovered and arrests made," the police from the northeastern city said in a brief statement.

An earlier advisory from Boston police warned that traffic would be impacted by a pair of parades Saturday linked to an annual Caribbean carnival, with one beginning at 6:30 am (1030 GMT) and a second hours later.

Police said they received a first call about shots being fired at 7:44 am.

Unverified social media posts appeared to show people running from a chaotic street scene, with some falling to the ground.

One person died during last year's Caribbean festival, local media reported.

Mass shootings have become disturbingly common across the United States, with easy access to firearms in most states.

On Friday night, two women were wounded by gunfire in Chicago while at a major league baseball game between the White Sox and the visiting Oakland Athletics.

India Or Pakistan? Sourav Ganguly Picks Favourite To Win Asia Cup Clash

Former Indian captain and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said that he has no favourites for winning the India versus Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 match because both teams are really good.  The Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka will kickstart from August 30 onwards, with the match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan on September 2 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy set to serve as the Men in Blue's campaign opener.  Ganguly also said that the fitness of Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who made his return from injury and led India to a 2-0 series win against Ireland, will get better with time and India did the right thing by picking Axar Patel in the squad for the continental tournament, as he can also bat well.

"Both India and Pakistan are good cricket teams. The team that plays well will win. I have no favourites....With time his (Jasprit Bumrah) fitness will get better....You can only have three spinners and I think they have done the right thing by picking Axar (Patel), he can bat," said Ganguly while talking to reporters in Kolkata on Thursday.

The squad also marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to ODI cricket after a gap of more than one year. After proving his fitness in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland, Bumrah is set to test himself in the 50-over format heading into the World Cup. India's pace attack will be boosted by the return of Mohammed Siraj, who was not in the team for some time due to a sore ankle.

Tilak Varma made it to India's Asia Cup squad on the back of his strong performance against West Indies during the tour that ended this month.

Bowling all-rounders Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are also in the squad to give the captain more diversity in choices. Apart from Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja is also in the team as an all-rounder.

Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A while Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B. The tournament will follow a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting four matches across two venues and Sri Lanka hosting the remaining games.

The six group-stage matches will be followed by the Super Fours, beginning September 6.

The final will be played by the top two teams at the end of the Super Fours on September 17 in Colombo.

Watch: Python Hides Behind Photo Frame Hanging In Australia Home

Snakes are one of the scariest reptiles that exist on the planet. However, their unique and amazing abilities often make them fascinating creatures. They are also masters of disguise and possess a special ability to confuse predators with their tactics. Recently, the residents of an Australian home were shocked after a snake was found hiding behind a photo frame in their living room.

In the hair-raising video shared by snake-catching and reptile relocation group Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, a carpet python can be seen slithering behind the photo frame. According to the snake rescuer Dan Rumsey, the reptile was the cause of the artwork being tilted away from the wall.

The residents of the house gasped as they watched the removal of the snake. "Alright so, behind (the artwork) - oh there it is. It's decided to come out that way," Mr Rumsey says. The snake's head can be seen behind the frame as Mr Rumsey tilts the frame. "Maybe if I just give it a bit of a tickle, I just don't want the painting to drop," the rescuer adds. He then keeps the frame on the back of the couch and later moves it down to the floor. Meanwhile, the reptile wraps itself around the picture. In a few seconds, the snake catcher grabs the snake and says, "There we go. that makes my life a bit easier."

This non-venomous snake breed called a carpet python can be found in Australia, Indonesia, and New Guinea. They don't have fangs, but rather "have numerous sharp recurved teeth designed for holding onto prey," according to the Snake Catchers website.

Since being shared, the video has amassed several reactions on social media.

"I'm starting to think Florida and Australia in competition with these snakes popping up everywhere," said a user.

"How strong is that picture hook!!" remarked a person.

A third user added, "My daughter would've kept it as her pet."

"It just wanted to be in the picture of things," added another person.

"I'm not okay with all these snakes showing up in peoples attics, toilets and photos on my feed now that I commented on freakin Tarzans feed! My anxiety is through the roof!" commented a person.

"6'3, 97 kg, Hair Blonde Or Strawberry": Trump Arrested

Donald Trump flew from New Jersey on Thursday to get his mug shot taken at an Atlanta jail as part of a wide-ranging criminal case stemming from the former U.S. president's attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia.

Trump's private airplane departed Newark International Airport as he journeyed to the Fulton County Jail, where several dozen supporters awaited his arrival. He said on social media that he would surrender around 7:30 p.m. Eastern time (2330 GMT).

Meanwhile, Judge Scott McAfee set a trial date of Oct. 23 for one of the defendants, attorney Kenneth Chesebro, after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who brought the charges against Trump and the others, had proposed that date. That trial date will not necessarily apply to Trump or the other 17 defendants.

Trump, 77, already has entered uncharted territory as the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges, though the four cases filed against him have not slowed his momentum as the front-runner in the race for the Republican nomination to run against Democratic President Joe Biden in next year's election.

Now the businessman-turned-politician who for years hosted a reality TV show is due to join the ranks of gangster Al Capone, crooner Frank Sinatra and other high-profile Americans who have posed for jailhouse photographs.

The image is certain to be circulated widely by Trump's foes and supporters alike.

"We want to put it on a T-shirt. It will go worldwide. It will be a more popular image than the Mona Lisa," said Laura Loomer, 30, a Republican former congressional candidate who mingled with other Trump supporters outside the jail on Thursday morning.

One of the most recognizable people in the world, Trump has not had to submit to a photo in the other three cases. But fake mug shots have circulated online since shortly after he was first indicted in Manhattan in March on charges involving hush money paid to a porn star ahead of the 2016 election.

At least 10 of his co-defendants already have been booked. Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York mayor, was stone-faced in his mug shot while lawyer Jenna Ellis smiled.

All 19 defendants face a Friday deadline to surrender. Court records showed that Mark Meadows, who served as Trump's White House chief of staff, was booked on Thursday.

Trump faces 13 felony counts in the Georgia case, including racketeering, which is typically used to target organized crime, for pressuring state officials to reverse his election loss and setting up an illegitimate slate of electors to undermine the formal congressional certification of Biden's victory.

TRIAL DATE WRANGLING

Willis originally proposed a trial date of March 4, but moved it up after Chesebro asked that his trial start by October. Trump's legal team has not yet proposed a date, but is expected to push for a much later start. On Thursday, his newly named lawyer Steven Sadow asked for Trump to be tried separately from Chesebro.

Trump is due to enter a plea on Sept. 5 and has pleaded not guilty in the three other cases. He has denied wrongdoing and has called all the cases politically motivated.

In addition to the New York state charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Trump faces two sets of federal charges brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith - one case in Washington involving election interference and one in Miami involving classified documents he retained after leaving office in 2021. He faces 91 criminal counts in total.

Trump has agreed to post $200,000 bond and accepted bail conditions that would bar him from threatening witnesses or his 18 co-defendants in the Georgia case.

The Federal Aviation Administration ordered that the airspace over the jail be closed beginning around 6:45 p.m. ET (2245 GMT), citing "VIP movement." The jail has a reputation for grim conditions that have inspired rap songs and prompted an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department.

Republicans who control the U.S. House of Representatives said on Thursday they would investigate whether Willis improperly coordinated with federal prosecutors. They previously launched an investigation of Bragg, who accused them of a "campaign of intimidation."

About a dozen Trump supporters, some holding flags, gathered outside the jail awaiting his arrival.

"I'm here because I'm appalled at what's happening," said Bob Kunst, 81, a retiree who said he had driven from Miami Beach and stood outside the jailhouse with a homemade sign that read "Lock Biden Up."

Trump's planned jailhouse visit comes a day after his rivals in the race for the Republican presidential nomination met in Milwaukee for their initial debate. Trump skipped that event, instead sitting for a pre-taped interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.

"I've been indicted four times - all trivial nonsense," Trump said.

"I Did Nothing Wrong": Donald Trump After Arrest Over Election Fraud

Former US president Donald Trump decried a "travesty of justice" following his formal arrest Thursday on racketeering and conspiracy charges in Georgia, calling the case against him "election interference."

"What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong," he told reporters as he prepared to fly out of Atlanta after being booked and photographed at the Fulton County Jail.

"What they're doing is election interference," he said.

Trump did not specify who he was accusing of interference, but he has routinely denounced President Joe Biden and other Democrats for allegedly obstructing his reelection campaign.

Former US president Donald Trump was released on $200,000 bond after having a historic mug shot taken.

Trump, who is accused of colluding with 18 other defendants to overturn the 2020 election result in the southern state, spent less than 30 minutes inside Atlanta's Fulton County Jail before leaving in a motorcade for the airport.

Like the other defendants in the case who have surrendered so far, the 77-year-old Trump had his mug shot taken during the booking process -- a first for any serving or former US president.

In the photograph released by the sheriff's office, he scowled at the camera while dressed in a dark blue suit, white shirt and red tie.

Trump was given the inmate number "PO1135809" by the Fulton County Jail, which listed his height as six foot three inches (1.9 meters), his weight as 215 pounds (97 kilograms) and his hair color as "Blond or Strawberry."

The billionaire has been criminally indicted four times since April, setting the stage for a year of unprecedented drama as he tries to juggle multiple court appearances and another White House campaign.

Trump was able to dodge having a mugshot taken during his previous arrests this year: in New York on charges of paying hush money to a porn star, in Florida for mishandling top secret government documents, and in Washington on charges of conspiring to upend his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

His arrest came one day after Trump spurned a televised debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, featuring eight of his rivals for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination -- all of whom lag well behind him in the polls.

He still stole the spotlight, though, with all but two of the candidates saying they would support him as the party's nominee even if he were a convicted felon.
