"Just For Fun": Why Teen Student Of Posh Delhi School Planned A Bomb Hoax

Days after a top school in Delhi received a bomb threat, police have said that it was a hoax mail sent by one of its students.

Police said that the threat mail was sent to Mathura Road's 'Delhi Public School' (DPS) by a 16-year-old student who "just wanted to have fun."

The student, during a counselling session, told police that he planned the prank "just for fun", and that he got the idea after a hoax threat was received at 'The Indian School' in Delhi's Sadiq Nagar.

On Wednesday, the school had received a threat mail claiming that a bomb had been planted on its premises, following which police had evacuated and sanitised the school.

However, no suspicious object was found at the school during the police search.

Police during its investigation found that the email id from which the mail was received was linked to the minor student.

"Being a minor, the student was neither detained, nor questioned. We have counselled him," officials said.

A similar incident was reported at the 'The Indian School' last month. The school was evacuated as the bomb squad and other agencies inspected the premises for any explosive substance. The mail was later declared a hoax.

The accused in the case is yet to be traced.

Dog Escapes New Home, Embarks On A 64-Km Journey Back To Former Owners

They say there is ''No love like a dog's love.'' Exemplifying the same, a golden retriever, whose owners were forced to give him up, escaped his new home and embarked on a 40-mile journey back to his former address.

According to a Metro report, the dog named Cooper leapt out of the car soon after arriving at his new home in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It then vanished for almost a month and covered an estimated 40 miles (64km) to Tobermore, County Londonderry, back to its original owners.

Missing pets charity Lost Paws NI said they received a tip-off on April 22 that the canine had been seen in a number of fields and hanging around by properties. Five days later, another caller reported seeing Cooper running towards his old house. They said the dog walked alone through back woods and along main roads, moving mostly at night, without any help from humans.

A spokesperson for Lost Paws NI, said, ''Cooper is a clever boy. Instinct took him back to a place he was familiar with. How he did it, I'll never know but he managed it. No food, no shelter, no help, just dogged determination and that incredible nose.

"We had searched in place, day and night and we had tracked him back to a spot where we lost him again but now we know he was almost back in the area where he'd started before he was given to the dog pound. Cooper crossed main A-roads, forests, fields, country roads all over 27 days to make his way back home from an area he had never been in before. We are absolutely delighted to have been part of his rescue and a story that.''

New owner Nigel Fleming said Cooper is ''safe now'' and ''eating small meals to build up his strength and put some weight back on slowly.''

Mr Fleming added, ''Even when he was missing, my faith in humanity was restored thanks to the incredible help I was offered, and today with him here by my side and with Molly, I don't really have the words to explain the gratitude I feel.''

A spokesman for Lost Paws NI said, ''Cooper is settling in well to his new home life with his sister and is enjoying some home comforts.   We visited him several days ago when he was caught and he was cuddled up by the fire, comfortable and loved.  I'd like to comment that his new owner Nigel is one of the most dedicated owners we've had the pleasure of meeting. Nigel never stopped fighting, never stopped asking for advice, and never stopped filling the food bowls every time we were on the move. This story is one about positivity, perseverance, loyalty, battling for what you want in life and never giving up.''

"Plans Wrong Or Execution Bad?": Dhoni's Blunt Take On CSK's Loss vs PBKS

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left ruing the four-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings in their own den, saying the bowlers need to be more aware of the situation and also indicated that the execution was probably "bad". CSK had a good chance of victory after posting 200 for four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks chiefly to another Devon Conway special of unbeaten 92, but the Shikhar Dhawan-led side hit the winning runs off the last ball to silence the yellow brigade on Sunday. "We lost it in a couple of overs in the middle. You need to be aware what you need to bowl and be clear because the batters will be going for it (big hits). (Matheesha) Pathirana bowled well but other than that, we need to see if the plans were wrong or the execution was bad," said Dhoni.

Barring openers Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad (37), none of the other batters could make an impact and Dhoni felt his team could have scored another 10 runs.

"We should be doing better with the bat. The pitch had turn, there was some turn when it hit the seam. The slower balls gripped. I think, 200 (runs) was par. Also towards the end of our innings, could we have got 10 more?" he questioned.

Winning team skipper Shikhar Dhawan said it was a special feeling defeating CSK in Chennai and praised wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma (21 off 10 balls) and Liam Livingstone (40 off 24) coming to the party.

"It feels very, very special beating Chennai in Chennai. I am very happy with the way we played. It shows great character of our side to bounce back from that loss, and leaving it behind.

"All credit goes to the team and the support staff. I was very happy at the way the bowlers bowled. At first when I saw, I thought the wicket was dry but it had good bounce. As a captain, I wanted Liam to play more overs. And Jitesh too. The good sign is that all the boys are performing," said Shikhar, who was involved in a 50-run partnership at the top with Prabhsimran Singh.

'Player of the match' Conway would be disappointed with the loss as the New Zealander's fifth half-century in IPL 2023 and his highest score this season -- an unbeaten 92 -- went in vain.

"We thought 200 was a very competitive total so a little bit disappointed that we lost this one," said Conway.

On his successful run, Conway said he likes to keep things simple.

"We felt it (wicket) was a little bit slow when you hit the wicket. I try not to over-complicate things. I try to keep things as simple as possible.

"I try and work as closely as I can with (batting coach) Mike Hussey. Along with the other players, we have got a lot of experience in our camp. Just try to work with them," he said.

Watch: Dhoni Pulls Off Cheeky Stumping vs PBKS. Twitter Calls It 'Savage'

Punjab Kings pulled off a thrilling chase of 201 against Chennai Super Kings and registered their fifth win of IPL 2023 on Sunday. Asked to bowl first, PBKS conceded 200/4 in 20 overs, courtesy of the unbeaten 92-run knock from Devon Conway. Later, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side struggled a bit but eventually found their way out after Sikandar Raza smashed the winning three runs on the last ball of the match. Apart from such a thrilling encounter, one thing which grabbed a lot of attention was a cheeky stumping CSK skipper MS Dhoni to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh.

In the 9th over of PBKS' chase, Prabhsimran completely failed to judge Ravindra Jadeja's delivery as he went way out of the crease. Dhoni, who was standing behind the stumps, got the ball and comfortably stumped him out. But before dislodging the bails, the CSK skipper teased Prabhsimran a bit and before disturbing the stumps, sending him packing for a score of 42.

Dhoni's terrific stumping left the fans awestruck as they took to Twitter and praised the former India skipper.

Chasing 201 for a win, Punjab needed nine runs from the final over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana who conceded just two from the first three deliveries. But Raza remained calm under immense pressure, scoring two runs each from the next two deliveries.

Raza (13 not out) sent the final ball towards the boundary but Maheesh Theekshana stopped it just before the ropes in a brilliant fielding effort. But, by that time, the PBKS batters had completed three runs and silenced of the home crowd at Chepauk.

Punjab finished at 201 for 6 as Prabhsimran Singh (42), Liam Livingstone (40), Sam Curran (29) and Jitesh Sharma (21) playing crucial roles as CSK opener Devon Conway's brilliant knock of 92 not out went in vain.

Actor's Death From Surgeries To Look Like BTS' Jimin Was AI Hoax: Report

A few days ago, there were several reports that a Canadian actor who underwent 12 plastic surgeries to resemble BTS's Jimin died in a hospital in Korea. The news was first reported by the British news media outlet Daily Mail and then picked up by a number of national and international websites.

However, it now turns out that the news was a hoax and there was no confirmation of the passing of a Canadian actor in South Korea, Variety reported. In fact, the actor, identified as Saint Von Colucci, may have never existed in the first place. Furthermore, his alleged publicist, Eric Blake, is nowhere to be found on social media or the web.

The news was sourced from two press releases that were sent directly to journalists and media outlets by a group called The Hype Company PR. Journalists received these releases in their inboxes through a bot called Nylas. The releases made several claims about the actor being discriminated against for his looks in Korea.

However, the hospital mentioned in the release doesn't exist and the company's website was set up just a few weeks before the actor's purported death.

The Variety report further found inconsistencies including the fact that Saint Von was said to be the son of Brazilian model Adriana Lima and a hedge fund CEO named Geovani Lamas. However, Lamas has little online presence and is, in fact, not the CEO of IBG Capital that the press release claimed him to be.

Meanwhile, evidence analyzed by Al Jazeera now shows that Von Colucci's life story appears to have been fabricated with images of him made using AI software. The actor has no online presence, except for an Instagram page under the name @papaxxzy that features blurry, hazy images, and no interaction with followers. There are no links to his music and other projects.

''Mis- and disinformation generated with the help of AI tools are certainly a reason for concern inasmuch as they will make the life of fact-checkers and journalists more difficult,'' Felix M Simon, a journalist and doctoral student at the Oxford Internet Institute, told Al Jazeera.

Further, the media in South Korea haven't found any police report about a Canadian actor dying due to complications from plastic surgeries.

Meanwhile, Daily Mail Online took down its article on Wednesday without any explanation or retraction notice.

Elon Musk Changes Twitter's Parental Leave Policy: Report

Twitter's Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has made a number of changes to the platform and the policies of the company since taking over the reins last year. The latest change is the reduction of parental leave from 20 weeks - roughly 140 days - to just 14 days, according to internal company documents cited by New York Times.

The change will affect employees who work in those states in the US that do not have a paid leave policy.

"New: Twitter used to offer employees 20 weeks of paid parental leave. That's being changed to whatever is required by law in the region where the employees work, along with a "top up" of two weeks of leave, per internal docs," NYT reporter Kate Conger said in a tweet

As per a report in New York Post, there is no federal law in the United States mandating paid parental leave. The Family and Medical Leave Act, however, allows for "unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons'' for up to 12 weeks for certain employees. However, it is to be noted that there are 12 states that provide paid family and medical leave of some kind. Employees are permitted to take up to eight weeks of paid leave in California under state law. Both New York and New Jersey permit up to 26 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in addition to 12 weeks of paid leave.

Several people bashed the billionaire for reducing the leave as it will give mothers a little time to rest, recover and spend time with their newborns in many US states.

"So let me get this straight... as an ex-Tweep who lives in MO - a state that doesn't require employers to give any time off - I would only get 2 weeks under this new policy? Also, how does this not breach the acquisition deal of protecting benefits for 1 year after close?" said a user.

"Shame on Twitter. Only two weeks of paid parental leave?! This is not the way," commented a second person.

A third person added, "As someone who got to take advantage of Twitter's 20 weeks for parental leave, i can say that being with my family during that time was a profoundly meaningful experience. Taking it away is _extremely_ sh****."

"This is how gender pay gap is entrenched. A woman now has the option of either returning to work two weeks after giving birth or taking a long, unpaid break from work. 20 weeks of paid parental leave minimizes that," noted another user.

"Only a company facing bankruptcy does this," said a person.

Another user added, "You can't be obsessed with declining birthrates and then incentivize your employees to not have children."

"So Many Guns Around Me...": Salman Khan On Getting Death Threats

Salman Khan, who has been receiving death threats and is on the target list of gangsters, finally shared his experience and how he is dealing with it.

The 'Tiger Zinda Hai' actor has been provided with Y+ category security by the Mumbai Police amid the death threat.

Salman shared the experience at India TV's show 'Aap ki Adalat' that, "Security is better than insecurity. Yes security is there. Now it is not possible to ride a bicycle on the road and go alone anywhere. And more than that, now I have this problem that when I am in traffic, then there is so much security, vehicles creating inconvenience to other people. They also give me a look. And my poor fans. There is a serious threat that's why there is security."

He added, "I am doing whatever I have been told. There is a dialogue 'Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan' 'they have to be lucky 100 times, I have to be lucky once'. So, I got to be very careful."

Salman continued, "I am going everywhere with full security. I know whatever is going to happen will happen no matter what you do. I believe that (points towards god) that he is there. It is not that I will start roaming freely, it is not like that. Now there are so many Sheras around me, so many guns are going around with me that I am myself scared these days."

Following the death threat, few days ago, a minor was arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly threatening to kill Salman during a phone call.

Mumbai Police said that a threat call was made to the Mumbai Police control room on April 10. The caller, who identified himself as Rockey Bhai from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, said he was a Gau Rakshak (cow-vigilante). The caller threatened to "eliminate" Salman Khan on April 30.

Mumbai Police added revealed the caller was found to be a minor. "As of now, we don't think the call should be taken seriously. But we are probing why the minor behaved in such a way," an officer said.

On March 26, one person identified as Dhakad Ram, a resident of Luni in Rajasthan's Jodhpur district, was arrested for sending a threat mail to Salman. He was apprehended and taken into custody.

A case was registered at Bandra police station. The accused, in his mail, alleged that the superstar will meet the same fate as "Sidhu Moosewala."

"A case has registered at Bandra police station with regard to emailed threats to kill Salman Khan. In a joint operation, Mumbai Police and Luni police teams caught the accused, Dhakad Ram, a resident of Luni in Jodhpur district," Ishwar Chand Pareek, an officer at Luni police station of Jodhpur told ANI earlier.

Khan has been provided with Y+ category security by the Mumbai police after assessing threat perceptions. The Maharashtra government assigned security escorts to the superstar after the actor received a threat letter from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

"Being Taken Captive By Russia Would Be A Disgrace": Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky carries a pistol and would have fought to the death with his inner circle had the Russians attacked his Kyiv headquarters at the start of the war, he said in an interview shown on Saturday.

"I know how to shoot. Could you imagine (a headline like) 'The President of Ukraine is taken captive by Russians?' This is a disgrace. I believe this would be a disgrace," he told the 1 1 television channel.

In the first days after the February 24, 2022 invasion, Ukrainian officials said Russian intelligence units tried to break into Kyiv but were defeated and failed to reach Bankova Street in the centre, home to the presidential offices.

Other Russian units launched an attack on the outskirts of Kyiv, but were unable to advance. Officials also reported several unsuccessful sabotage attempts inside the city.

"I think if they had gone inside, into the administration, we would not be here," Zelenskiy said. It was not clear which Russian units he was referring to.

"No one would have been taken prisoner because we had a very seriously prepared defence of Bankova Street. We would have been there to the last," he said.

Asked whether he carried a pistol and practised using it, he replied that he did, while dismissing a suggestion he might have used it to kill himself rather than be captured.

"No, no, no. It's not (to shoot) myself. To shoot back, surely," he said.

Sudan Violence Enters Third Week, UN Says Country "Falling Apart"

Warplanes on bombing raids drew heavy anti-aircraft fire over Khartoum on Saturday as fierce fighting between Sudan's army and paramilitaries entered a third week, violating a renewed truce.

More than 500 people have been killed since battles erupted on April 15 between the forces of army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his number two Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

They have agreed to multiple truces but none has effectively taken hold as the number of dead civilians continues to rise and chaos and lawlessness grip Khartoum, a city of five million people where many have been cloistered in their homes lacking food, water, and electricity.

Tens of thousands of people have been uprooted within Sudan or embarked on arduous trips to neighbouring Chad, Egypt, South Sudan and Ethiopia to flee the battles.

"There is no right to go on fighting for power when the country is falling apart," UN chief Antonio Guterres told Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television.

The latest three-day ceasefire -- due to expire at midnight (2200 GMT) Sunday -- was agreed Thursday after mediation led by the United States, Saudi Arabia, the African Union and the United Nations.

"We woke up once again to the sound of fighter jets and anti-aircraft weapons blasting all over our neighbourhood," a witness in south Khartoum told AFP.

Another said fighting had continued since the early morning, especially around the state broadcaster's headquarters in the capital's twin city of Omdurman.

Other witnesses reported exchanges of machine gun fire across the Blue Nile in Khartoum North, while the sound of gunfire rang out in Burri in the east of the city.

Smoke drifted over the area around Khartoum airport.

Trading blame

As battles raged, the rival generals -- who seized power in a 2021 coup -- took aim at each other in the media, with Burhan branding the RSF a militia that aims "to destroy Sudan" and Daglo calling the army chief "a traitor".

Guterres threw his support behind African-led mediation efforts.

"My appeal is for everything to be done to support an African-led initiative for peace in Sudan," he told Al Arabiya.

The violence has killed at least 528 people and wounded 4,599, the health ministry said Saturday, but those figures are likely to be incomplete.

About 75,000 have been displaced by the fighting in Khartoum and the states of Blue Nile, North Kordofan, as well as the western region of Darfur, the UN said.

The fighting has also triggered a mass exodus of foreigners and international staff.

On Saturday, a ferry with around 1,900 evacuees arrived at a Saudi naval base in Jeddah, after crossing the Red Sea from Port Sudan in the latest evacuation to the kingdom by sea.

They were among almost 4,880 people who have been brought to safety in the kingdom, the Saudi foreign ministry said.

A US-organized convoy carrying American citizens, local staff, and nationals from allied countries arrived in Port Sudan Saturday to join the exodus across the Red Sea, the State Department said.

The Pentagon said it had "deployed US intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets to support air and land evacuation routes which Americans are using."

Britain said it was ending its evacuation flights, after airlifting more than 1,500 people this week.

The World Food Programme has said the violence could plunge millions more into hunger in a country where 15 million people -- one-third of the population -- already need aid to stave off famine.

About 70 percent of hospitals in areas near the fighting have been put out of service and many have been shelled, the doctors' union said.

'Incredibly worried'

In West Darfur state, at least 96 people were reported to have been killed in the city of El Geneina this week, the UN said.

"What's happening in Darfur is terrible, the society is falling apart, we see tribes that now try to arm themselves," Guterres said.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said there were reports of widespread looting, destruction, and burning of property, including at camps for displaced people.

MSF deputy operations manager for Sudan, Sylvain Perron, said the fighting had forced the agency to stop almost all its activities in West Darfur.

"We are incredibly worried about the impact this violence is having on people who have already lived through waves of violence in the previous years."

Darfur is still reeling from a war that erupted in 2003 when then hardline president Omar al-Bashir unleashed the Janjaweed militia, mainly recruited from Arab pastoralist tribes, against ethnic minority rebels.

The scorched-earth campaign left at least 300,000 people dead and close to 2.5 million displaced, according to UN figures, and saw Bashir charged with war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by the International Criminal Court.

The Janjaweed later evolved into the RSF, which was formally created in 2013.

The 2021 coup that brought Burhan and Daglo to power derailed the transition to elective civilian rule launched after Bashir was ousted following mass protests in 2019.

The two generals later fell out, most recently over the planned integration of the RSF into the regular army.

US Asks China To Stop "Provocative And Unsafe" Acts In South China Sea

The United States called on China Saturday to stop "provocative and unsafe conduct" in the disputed South China Sea after a recent near-collision with a Philippines coast guard boat there, ramping up rhetoric ahead of a visit by the Filipino president to the White House.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, in a statement two days before President Joe Biden is to host his Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said the incident was a reminder of China's "harassment and intimidation" of Philippine vessels in the contested waterway.

"We call upon Beijing to desist from its provocative and unsafe conduct," he said, adding that any attack on Philippine armed forces would trigger a US response.

Joe Biden has been working to bolster relations with Asian allies as the US-Chinese relationship remains in a historically deep chill, and the Philippines' proximity to key sea lanes and Taiwan gives it particular strategic importance.

The near-miss Sunday off the Spratly Islands was the latest in a long string of maritime incidents between China and the Philippines.

Beijing claims sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea, ignoring an international ruling that the assertion has no legal basis.

- A near-miss -

AFP was one of several media outlets that witnessed the incident after journalists were invited to join two Philippine Coast Guard boats on a six-day patrol of the waters, visiting a dozen islands and reefs.

The Philippine vessels approached Second Thomas Shoal, known in China as Ren'ai Jiao, in the Spratly archipelago.

As one boat, the BRP Malapascua, which was carrying Filipino journalists, neared the shoal, a Chinese Coast Guard vessel more than twice its size sailed into its path.

AFP journalists watched the incident from the other Philippine Coast Guard boat, which was less than a kilometer (0.6 miles) away.

The Malapascua's commanding officer said the Chinese ship came within 45 meters (50 yards) of his boat and only his quick actions avoided the steel-hulled vessels crashing into each other.

The Chinese foreign ministry said Friday that the Philippine boats had "intruded" without China's permission and called it a "premeditated and provocative action."

- Manila pushes back -

But Manila hit back, saying that "routine patrols in our own waters can be neither premeditated or provocative" and insisting they will continue to conduct the patrols.

The near-miss came just a day after Marcos hosted Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang for talks in Manila aimed at defusing tensions in the waterway.

Marcos has insisted he will not let China trample on the Philippines' rights in the sea, and has gravitated toward the United States as he seeks to strengthen defense ties.

Early this month, the Philippines identified four additional military bases -- in addition to five existing sites -- to which US forces will have access, including one near the Spratly Islands.

The two countries also carried out their biggest ever military maneuvers in recent weeks.

This shift has alarmed China, which has accused Washington of trying to drive a wedge between Beijing and Manila.

- 'Ironclad commitment' -

US-Philippine ties were badly frayed under Marcos's predecessor, the authoritarian Rodrigo Duterte.

Marcos has sought to allay public fears that the reviving alliance with the US could bring the Philippines into the conflict if China were to invade Taiwan.

He has said that with Biden he will discuss the "need to tone down the rhetoric" over the South China Sea, Taiwan and North Korea.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said earlier in the month that Biden intended, in the meeting with Marcos, to "reaffirm the United States' ironclad commitment to the defense of the Philippines."

MS Dhoni Loses Cool, Yells At Matheesha Pathirana. Expression Goes Viral

MS Dhoni is well known as ‘Captain Cool' because of his calm demeanour on the field and his ability to be patient in the toughest of situations. As a result, it came as a surprise when he lost his temper and yelled at Chennai Super Kings teammate Matheesha Pathirana during their match against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. During the 16th over of the RR innings, Dhoni had the chance to run Shimron Hetmyer out from behind the stumps but he was not able to complete the throw as Pathirana was standing in front in his way. The CSK captain was extremely angry with the youngster and he went on to yell at the pacer for missing out on the opportunity.

Into his 16th IPL season, Dhoni has looked far from finished. He has not just led CSK brilliantly but also produced cameos with the bat that left fans feeling nostalgic. Though Dhoni's cameos have been mesmerising, many fans and experts wonder what it would take for him to promote himself in the batting order for CSK this season. Dwayne Bravo, who has played with Dhoni in the Super Kings team for years, shed light on the matter, explaining why the skipper won't promote himself.

"That is the position he has to bat. Everyone is batting higher than him and he takes that responsibility and ownership upon himself to bat lower down the order because the likes of Jadeja, Rayudu, and Dube, he wants to give these guys as many opportunities as possible. He is happy to just play the finishing role," Bravo had said in a press conference.

Chennai sit top of the IPL 2023 standings with 5 wins in 7 matches. Rajasthan, on the other hand, are placed 3rd in the points table with 4 wins in 7 matches. Bravo is confident of the morale in the CSK dressing room and the team's ability to keep the momentum going.

"The CSK morale is very high, and that has nothing to do with the results. We are a team that is normally very level irrespective of whether we perform well or not.

"But it is always better when we are doing well. So far, we have started the season on a positive note and we just have to keep the momentum and keep winning cricket games. Tomorrow's game against RR is going to be a very hard game," he said.

Explosive Planted Through 'Foxhole Mechanism' In Chhattisgarh Maoist Blast

The powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which claimed the lives of 10 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and a civilian driver in insurgency-hit Dantewada district, was planted beneath the road a few months back by digging a tunnel through 'foxhole mechanism', said Bastar Police.

"De-mining is done on the said road from time to time. Prima-facie it appears that the IED was planted far below the road through 'foxhole mechanism' (a style of digging tunnel) due to which it could not be detected during the de-mining exercise," said the police.

Initial investigation revealed that the IED was planted around one-and-half or two months back by digging a tunnel roadside and the wire connected to it was hidden 2-3 inches beneath the ground, the police said.

Based on the investigation findings, police have registered an offence against naxal cadres.

Further investigation is underway.

On April 26, 10 personnel and a civilian were killed in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada after an IED attack was carried out by Naxals on a vehicle carrying District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel near Aranpur.

How A Plastic Bag Was Key In Pinning Gurugram Man Who Cut Wife Into Pieces

A polythene bag became the key evidence in the solving of the murder of a woman, whose headless, half-burnt bust was found at a farm here last week.

The woman missing her head with her both legs chopped off was found in a room at a farmhouse in a village in Manesar on April 21.

The investigation led police to a 34-year-old Jitender, a former navy cook and the woman's husband, who later confessed to killing her over an illicit affair with another woman.

"During the search of the room where the torso was found, police also found a polythene bag bearing the name of a Vishakhapatnam-based company. On enquiry, the vendor of the company informed us that they supply that type of polythene bag to the Indian Navy," Vijay Pratap Singh, DCP, Crime, said.

Following the lead, police began searching records for missing person reports and found that a man named Jitender had reported his wife, a 28-year-old Sonia Sharma, missing on April 21.

They found that Jitender, now a suspect, worked as a navy cook and had taken retirement in 2022.

"Jitender was seen in CCTV footage carrying a fully-packed trolley bag and backpack on a bike, and returning with a deflated bag. He was apprehended and during interrogation, he confessed to the murder of his wife and was arrested," Singh said.

According to police, Jitender revealed that he had killed his wife, with whom he has an eight-year-old, because she had got to know about his extramarital affair.

He also revealed that he had secretly married the other woman.

Sonia Sharma's body was found from one of the two rooms built on a farm leased by Kukdola village resident Umed Singh.

According to police, Umed Singh had leased eight acres of land located by a road leading from Pachgaon Chowk to Kasan village.

The inspection of the spot revealed that the woman had been killed elsewhere and an attempt had been made to burn the torso in that room to prevent her from being identified.

After two days, police found her legs from Kherki Daula and sent them for DNA test.

Her head was recovered from a place in Manesar on Thursday in presence of the Executive Magistrate on the disclosure of the accused yesterday, police said.

A police team led by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar, Manesar Crime Unit in-charge, investigated the case.

According to police, Jitender killed his wife by strangling and then got down to destroying evidence.

"My wife had come to know about my extramarital relationship. To get rid of her, I decided to kill her. After strangling her, I cut her body into pieces and packed them in polythene bags. I then disposed of the body parts in different places so that the body couldn't be identified," he told police.

Jitender was produced in a city court on Friday and has been taken on a three-day police remand, Lalit Kumar, the Investigating Officer, said.

Fake Passport Racket Helping Gangsters Escape From India Busted In Punjab

The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police arrested three persons allegedly involved in procuring and providing passports on fake particulars to gangsters/criminals of Punjab and other states to facilitate their escape from the country.

The Director General of Police (DGP) in Punjab, Gaurav Yadav said today that the arrested have been identified as Onkar Singh of village Kaki Pind in Jalandhar, Sukhjinder Singh alias Sharpy Ghumman of village Karhali in Patiala and Prabhjot Singh Baheri in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference, the DGP said, "Acting on reliable human inputs about the involvement of inter-state travel agents in preparing passports using fake particulars to help gangsters/criminals to flee from the law of the country, AGTF teams headed by ADGP Promod Ban and assisted by AIG Sandeep Goel in an overnight operation busted this gang with the arrest of its three members".

"Investigations reveal that this gang, having linkages in states including Delhi, UP, Kolkata, Gujarat and Maharashtra, had facilitated a number of gangsters/criminals from Punjab and other states to flee from the country on fake passports," he added.

Other than this, at least nine passports and several photocopies of passports of absconding gangsters prepared using fake particulars were also recovered by the police.

The DGP said that the police teams have rounded up five more persons linked with this gang and further investigations are on to unearth their entire network.

Divulging more details, ADGP Promod Ban said that accused Onkar, who runs an illegal immigration firm in Jalandhar, was involved in making passports for gangster/criminals using fake particulars and duping innocent people on the pretext of sending them abroad.

As per the police, during questioning, accused Onkar disclosed that he had procured passports on fake particulars for gangsters including Varinder Pal Singh alias Veena Butter (Bambiha gang) and Jaswinder Singh alias Khattu (Dharminder Gugni gang involved in the target killings in Punjab), to help them flee the country.

During the preliminary interrogation, the accused Prabhjot Singh has revealed that one of his conduits Charanjit Singh alias Bareilly (who has been arrested by Delhi Police), had made a passport using fake particulars for gangster Deepak Boxer, who was recently deported from Mexico, the police said.

Accused Sukhjinder Singh alias Sharpy Ghumman has disclosed to have procured a passport on fake particulars for Deepinder Singh alias Deepu of Ajnala, who has a criminal background and is an associate of absconding gangster Harry Chatha, the police added.

"A case FIR no. 2 dated April 26, 2023 has been registered under sections 420, 468, 471, 473 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), section 25 of the Arms Act and section 12 of the Passport Act at Police Station State Crime SAS Nagar," the statement read.

"Even Dhoni Has Spoken...": Ex India Star On Rahanes Resurrection At CSK

The revival of veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane in T20 cricket has been a surprise to many. Bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of INR 50 lakh, Rahane has done wonders with the bat for the franchise, emerging as one of the top run-getters in the competition. His heroics with the bat also seems to have played a role in his return to the national team for the ICC World Test Championship final. While Rahane has been the talk of the two for a few weeks now, former India batter Pravin Amre revealed that even MS Dhoni has been talking about the technique that the veteran India star has shown this campaign.

"We just reminded him how he came into the international arena through T20 (39-ball 61 at Old Trafford, in August 2011). It's a coincidence that his T20 performance has helped him make a comeback. Hard work always pays, when he was dropped nobody thought he will come back. He had a very good Ranji season, and got a double hundred. We are seeing the new version of Ajinkya, people are really surprised the way he is hitting the ball so long while playing proper cricketing shots," Amre was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Rahane has always been considered a technically sound batter. But, he was never really seen as a T20 specialist since the shortest format of the game has seen players with brute force and muscle excel more as batters. However, Amre debunked that myth as he revealed how much CSK skipper Dhoni has been impressed seeing Rahane use his technique to excel in T20s for Chennai.

"His game is built on timing and he has got it back," said Amre. "Even Dhoni has spoken about his technique. People wrongly say that technique is not important in T20s. I am very happy because as coaches we always insisted on technique, it really matters in T20," Amre said.

Watch: 'Lightning Fast' MS Dhoni Affects Classy Run Out Of RR Star

MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings would not have been wrong had someone told them that the four-time IPL champions were playing a home match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Fans turned up in huge numbers to show their 'yellove' for CSK and Dhoni. And the legend gave them several occasions to cheer. Apart from masterminding the CSK attack, Dhoni also affected a brilliant runout with a singular effort. It came on the fourth ball of the last over of RR's innings as Dhoni ran out Dhruv Jurel. After Matheesha Pathirana bowled a wide delivery, Dhoni dived to his right to collect the ball and affected the run-out with an accurate throw.

Watch: Lightning-Fast MS Dhoni Affects Classy Run Out OF RR Star

Talking about the game, An explosive half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal and an entertaining cameo by Dhruv Jurel powered Rajasthan Royals (RR) to 202/5 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Thursday.
After electing to bat first, RR was off to a great start. Jaiswal hit three boundaries in the first over to provide a classy start to the Royals. For the most part of the partnership, Jaiswal acted as an aggressor while Jos Buttler played as an anchor. Akash Singh leaked runs in the third over, he was hit for three fours and a six by Jaiswal.

The strokeplay that these two openers offered was such that the one-time champions reached the 50-run mark in just 4.2 overs. At the end of the powerplay, RR was at 64/0, with Jaiswal (40*) and Buttler (23*) unbeaten at the crease.

Jaiswal continued his fine form in IPL 2023, bringing up his third fifty in this edition of the tournament in just 26 balls. His knock had six fours and three sixes.

It was Jadeja who put an end to the 86-run stand between the duo. Shivam Dube took a fine catch at long-on to dismiss Buttler for 27 off 21 balls, consisting of four boundaries. RR was 86/1 in 8.2 overs.

RR touched the 100-run mark in 9.5 overs. As skipper Sanju Samson and Yashasvi threatened to build a huge partnership, Tushar Deshpande brought back CSK into the game. He first dismissed Sanju for a run-a-ball 17 after Ruturaj Gaikwad took a catch at long-on. In the next four balls, he also dismissed Yashasvi for a well-made 77 off 43 balls. His knock was laced with eight fours and four sixes. RR was at 132/3 in 13.5 overs.

At the end of 15 overs, RR was at 139/3, with Shimron Hetmyer (8*) and Dhruv Jurel (2*) unbeaten at the crease.

RR lost their finisher Shimron Hetmyer for 8 runs after he is clean bowled by Maheesh Theekshana while attempting to cut. RR is 146/4 in 16.1 overs. With help of a four from Devudutt Padikkal, RR reached the 150-run mark in 16.3 overs. RR ended their innings at 202/5, with Padikkal (23*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1*) unbeaten.

Delhi Man Hacks His Wife To Death, Injures Son, Daughter With Axe

A 55-year-old property dealer here in south Delhi's Neb Sarai area allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe and tried to kill his two children, injuring them both in the neck, police said on Thursday.

Vijay Veer, the accused, often used to have a row with his 50-year-old wife over dowry, and after one such fight Thursday, he attacked her with an axe while she was asleep, they said.

According to police, another reason for frequent fights between the couple was Veer's extramarital affairs and his wife's confronting him about it.

He also didn't like the fact that his wife was supported by their son and daughter, both aged 28 and 30, a senior police officer said.

The matter was reported Thursday around 6.30am by the daughter, a law graduate, who said her mother was attacked with an axe by her father.

When police reached the spot, they found Suman, the wife, lying on the bed in a pool of blood with multiple cuts to her neck and Vijay Veer there with an injured hand.

Her daughter and son too were found injured in the neck and forehead. They told police that their father had attacked them with an axe.

Police took the four of them to a hospital, where Suman was declared brought dead.

According to police, Suman had married Veer, originally from Garh Mukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh, in 1992 and the couple soon after started living in Neb Sarai at his relative's house.

When police checked his antecedents, they found Vijay Veer had been arrested in 2017 too for opening fire at his family during a row with his wife and wounding his son Shashank.

At that time, he was booked under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code at Mehrauli Police Station and sent to jail. He was later released since the family refused to press charges and proceedings were quashed, police said.

On Thursday morning, he attacked his wife with an axe while she was sleeping.

After that, he went to the room of his children and attacked them with the same axe.

They somehow snatched the axe from him and bolted themselves inside their room and made a call to police, said a police officer.

Veer was booked under charges of murder and attempt to murder, said police, adding further investigation is underway.

CBI Court Likely To Give Verdict Today In Actor Jiah Khan Suicide Case

A special CBI court in Mumbai is likely to announce its verdict today in the suicide case of actor Jiah Khan, who was found dead in her suburban home on June 3, 2013.

Actor Suraj Pancholi, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, is accused of abetting the suicide of Khan.

Suraj Pancholi was charged on the basis of a 6-page letter purportedly written by Khan, who was found hanging in her Juhu home.

As per the Central Bureau of Investigation, the letter, which was seized by Mumbai police that began its probe on June 10, 2013, was written by Jiah Khan.

The CBI claimed the note narrated her "intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental and physical torture" allegedly at the hands of Pancholi, which led to her committing suicide.

The case was reassigned to a special CBI court in 2021 after the sessions court said it did not have the jurisdiction over the case as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had probed it.

Special CBI Judge AS Sayyad, after hearing the final arguments of both the sides, last week reserved his judgement in the case for April 28.

Jiah Khan's mother Rabia Khan, a key prosecution witness in the case, told the court she believed it was a case of murder and not suicide. The Bombay High Court last year dismissed her petition seeking a fresh probe into the case.

During her deposition, Rabia Khan had told the CBI court Pancholi used to subject Jiah Khan to physical and verbal abuse. She also alleged the police and CBI had not collected legal evidence to prove her daughter had committed suicide.

Pancholi, in his 313-page statement filed before the court, had claimed the investigation and chargesheet were false, adding prosecution witnesses had testified against him on the behest of complainant Rabia Khan, police, and CBI.

Jiah Khan is best known for her performance in Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Nishabd'.

BJP Calls For Strike In North Bengal After Violence Over Teen's Death

The BJP has announced a 12-hour bandh in north Bengal on Friday in protest against "atrocities on a tribal community". The bandh call comes in the backdrop of a teenage girl's death at Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur district last week. Several incidents of violence have been reported since.

North Bengal includes the districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda.

The ruling Trinamool Congress has reacted sharply to the bandh call and accused the BJP of trying to disturb peace in the state. The party has also accused the BJP of trying to politicise and communalise the teen's death, calling it "vulture politics".

The Calcutta High Court, meanwhile, has asked for a progress report on the investigation. The court has asked the police to submit the postmortem report, case diary and FIR by May 2.

The court has also directed the police to hand over a copy of the FIR and postmortem report to the family and the NCPCR. The family members have gone to court, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Kaliaganj remained tense but peaceful today. The BJP, however, claimed that one person has been killed in police firing. There has been no statement from the police on the matter.

The police came under attack on Tuesday and a viral video had shown a policeman being beaten up by a mob inside the police station.

BJP MP Debasree Choudhury held a protest in the area today and called for the bandh.

"One of our members protesting over the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Uttar Dinajpur's Kaliaganj was shot dead by police," she told reporters.

"BJP workers are continuously being arrested after the Ram Navami violence. Till now, more than 150 workers have been arrested. We would like to tell Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that due to her failures, the Kaliaganj incident took place and now she must take responsibility for it," she added.

Woman Uses Dead Helicopter Pilot's Identity To Avoid Traffic Fee, Charged

An Australian woman has been charged with fraud after she used the identity of a dead pilot in order to avoid a traffic fine, the Independent reported. 33-year-old Stephanie Louise Bennett pleaded guilty to using Sea World pilot Ash Jenkinson's identity after she was caught using her mobile phone behind the wheel last year in December.

In order to avoid the mandatory $1,078 fine, Ms. Bennett went online to claim she was not at fault. She then used information from the pilot's death notice to nominate Mr. Jenkinson as the driver of her vehicle. She allegedly found Mr. Jenkinson's full name and date of birth in an obituary notice following his death.

As per ABC, Mr Jenkinson died on the Gold Coast Broadwater on January 2 when the helicopter he was flying collided with another helicopter in mid-air. He was killed, along with three passengers on board - Sydney woman Vanessa Tadros, and British couple Ron and Diane Hughes.

When Mr. Jenkinson's widow received the fine notice just weeks after his death, she raised the matter with the traffic office and police on February 13.

After an investigation, Ms. Bennett pleaded guilty at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 26 to fraud and identity theft, according to 9News. She said that she was going through "personal matters" and "financial troubles" at the time, and had tried to undo her actions the next morning ''but the website didn't accept it.''

In an email to the court, which was read aloud, she apologised "for the turmoil this has caused anyone" and said she was "immensely regretful for my actions".

Following her guilty plea, Bennet will be sentenced on May 19.

Harbhajan's Epic Solution For DC Batter's Struggle; Play This Retired Star

Former India star Harbhajan Singh has presumably taken a dig at the batting of Indian Premier League side Delhi Capitals post its poor show against SunRisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday. In the game, DC lost the first five wickets at the score of 62 before Axar Patel and Manish Pandey saved their blushes by helping them post a fighting total of 144 for 9 on the board. Both the batters scored 34 runs each as they added 69 runs for the sixth wicket.

While analysing the side's performance after the game, Harbhajan criticised the batting unit of Delhi. He added that the side should also rope in retired cricketer and their assistant coach, Shane Watson, in the team.

"I'm saying that DC should also play Shane Watson, he is a solid player. He has recently retired, and the way with which DC's opening is going these days, he will be of use, and a better choice as well," Harbhajan said in Hindi on his YouTube channel.

Talking about the match, Washington Sundar's all-round effort went in vain as SRH made heavy weather of a below-par chase to go down to DC by seven runs, their third defeat in a row in the IPL, on Monday.

The offspin allrounder Sundar (4-0-28-3) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-0-11-2) exposed the batting frailties of DC in the first half of the game to restrict them to 144/9 after David Warner opted to bat. But an inexplicable batting approach in which SRH never looked to dominate led to their downfall as they were restricted to 137/6.

Ashok Gehlot Takes Jibe At Vasundhara Raje Over Her "Milk, Lemon" Remark

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday mocked his predecessor Vasundhara Raje after she rejected allegations of collusion with him.

BJP leader Ms Raje last week rejected allegations of collusion with Mr Gehlot as a lie and said milk and lemon juice do not go together.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Bikaner, Ashok Gehlot said his government did not stop schemes of the previous BJP regime and even carried forward its Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project.

"We do not stop their schemes but our (previous Congress regime) schemes were stopped by the former government (BJP dispensation) and this is the difference between 'milk' and 'lemon'," Mr Gehlot said.

The senior Congress leader also highlighted the state government's various works, schemes and programmes and exuded confidence of the Congress returning to power in the assembly elections, due later this year.

Ms Raje last week said a lie was being spread as part of a conspiracy.

"Can milk and lemon juice ever mix?" she had asked during a visit to the Jambheshwar temple in Suratgarh town of Sriganganagar district.

Mamata Banerjee's "Delhi Conspiracy" Allegation On School Hostage Situation

A man brandishing a gun was tackled and arrested by the police as he threatened to hold a classroom full of children hostage at gunpoint in West Bengal's Malda. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said a disaster had been averted by the police's timely action, adding that the act may not have been one of lunacy.

A policeman barged into a classroom and pinned the man to the ground as frightened children rushed out of the classroom as the gunman continued to rant inside the classroom. Azhar Uddin, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) pounced on the gun-wielding man and pinned him to the ground before snatching the weapon from him.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I must congratulate my police officials and the media who have saved us from a deep sea of conspiracy. There is a conspiracy around Bengal, and I believe Delhi is involved in this. I don't know who exactly is doing this, but this is Delhi's conspiracy A-Z. Wherever there is an opposition party state there is an attempt to disturb, and they have been doing it to me from the beginning."

She further alleged that no common man would have been able to execute this. "Where did he learn the word (hostages) from? When people who do these kinds of things are caught, they immediately say it's a lunatic. Who gave him the idea that you can take hostages like this?"

West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar targeted the Chief Minister over the law-and-order situation in the state. "The Honourable Chief Minister said she would transform Kolkata to London. But I have heard of such gunmen-related incidents in America. Now it is happening in our towns and villages. You imagine what a scary law and order situation it has become," he said.

Opinion: India Overtook China In Population. Now What?

Surpassing China as the world's most populous country, as indicated in the UNFPA State of World Population report, India's demographic composition, with a staggering 65% working-age population, embodies an unparalleled reservoir of human capital. This dynamic workforce has the potential to propel the nation towards remarkable socio-economic progress and has the ability for transformative global impact. Seizing this demographic dividend is critical for India to elevate its position on the world stage and significantly enrich the knowledge economy.

John Steinbeck's classic novel, "The Pearl," serves as an allegory for India's imperative to capitalize on its demographic advantage. The protagonist, Kino, discovers an extraordinary pearl, yet his inability to harness its value culminates in devastating consequences. Similarly, India must recognize the magnitude of its human resource potential and proactively invest in it to avoid squandering this generational opportunity.

The remarkable benefits of the demographic dividend cannot be overstated, particularly for industrial nations that have successfully navigated the demographic transition. This pivotal shift, characterized by a transition from high fertility and mortality rates to their lower counterparts in urbanized, industrial societies, creates an unparalleled opportunity for substantial economic growth. The first dividend, fuelled by declining fertility rates, generates a temporary surge in the labour force, opening doors for amplified investment in economic development and family well-being. This chain reaction results in accelerated per capita income growth. While the first dividend's duration is finite, spanning approximately five decades, it lays the groundwork for a promising second dividend.

Driven by an ageing workforce accumulating assets for extended retirement, the second dividend sees these assets, whether invested domestically or internationally, contributing to a significant rise in national income. As a result, the first dividend offers a fleeting bonus, while the second morphs into enhanced assets and enduring development. It is crucial to note, however, that these dividends are not guaranteed and hinge on the adoption of effective policies within this golden window of opportunity. In essence, skilfully leveraging the demographic dividend can pave the way for elevated living standards and sustained economic growth, as evidenced in diverse regions between 1970 and 2020.

India has a unique opportunity to capitalize on the first demographic dividend, as around half of the country's population is under the age of 25, and the working-age population is forecast to hit more than 1 billion in the next couple of years. An IMF working paper titled "Demographic Dividend: Evidence from the Indian States" authored by Shekhar Aiyar and Ashoka Mody suggests that demographic dividend could add up to 2 percentage points to per capita GDP growth per annum.

But the question remains, how can India capitalize on its demographic dividend? Experiences from countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea demonstrate the potential for leveraging the demographic dividend to achieve remarkable economic growth by implementing forward-thinking policies and programs that empower the youth in education, skill development, and health choices. There are two factors which are impeding India from fully exploiting the demographic dividend.

(1) There is a significant gap between the skills imparted in educational institutions in India and the skills required for jobs. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has projected that India will face a 29 million skill deficit by 2030. India's education system is unable to provide the necessary skills to its growing workforce. Many young people lack the required qualifications and vocational training to find suitable jobs. The Department of School Education and Literacy is executing the Vocationalisation of School Education initiative under 'Samagra Shiksha' to integrate vocational education with general academics in secondary and senior secondary schools. The goal is to enhance students' employability, entrepreneurial skills, work environment exposure, and career awareness. NSQF-compliant vocational courses are offered to classes 9-12 as additional subjects or elective subjects. Various job roles across multiple sectors are included in these modules to cater to students' aptitudes and aspirations. Apart from this, under the Skill India Mission, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship offers skill training through schemes like PMKVY, JSS, NAPS, and CTS via ITIs. These demand-driven initiatives aim to improve youth employability by continuously adding industry-relevant courses. Unfortunately, this is not enough, as not all schools offer this.

Fortunately, the India Skills Report 2023 reveals a rise in employability to 50.3% (from 46.2% last year) with women at 52.8% and men at 47.2%. Additionally, 89% of graduates sought internships, and candidates from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi were the most employable. B.Tech, MBA, and B.Com degrees showed the highest employability rates. The report is based on the Wheebox National Employability Test findings, which 3.75 lakh students took.

India should further strengthen its Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) programs. Finland's TVET program is known for its high-quality education, strong connection with industry needs, and emphasis on practical skills. One of the critical aspects of the Finnish TVET system that India can learn from is its strong collaboration between educational institutions, the private sector, and the government. This cooperation ensures that the curriculum and training programs are tailored to meet the current and future needs of the labour market, thereby enhancing the employability of graduates. India can benefit from adopting a similar approach, encouraging stronger ties between educational institutions and industry players to develop curricula that are aligned with market demands and technological advancements.

Another crucial lesson India can learn from Finland's TVET program is the focus on lifelong learning and continuous skill development. In Finland, vocational education is not limited to initial training but extends to further skill development throughout an individual's career. This approach helps the Finnish workforce stay competitive and adapt to the rapidly changing demands of the global economy. India can adopt this concept by promoting a culture of continuous learning and upskilling among its workforce, supported by government policies and incentives. This would not only help to bridge the skill-employability gap, butt also enable India's workforce to remain agile and prepared for the ever-evolving job market.

(2) Informal nature of the economy: A large proportion of India's economy is informal, which can hinder the full realization of the demographic dividend. This is because informal employment often lacks social security, job security, and opportunities for skill development. According to the ILO, 85% of the non-agricultural workforce in India is informal. As the fastest-growing major economy today, India still grapples with the lingering impact of policy-driven workforce informality, rooted in the first four decades post-independence. Slow growth from 1950 to 1980, a heavy industry focus, and product reservations for small firms fuelled the proliferation of unregistered businesses where workers faced subpar wages and conditions. Restrictive labour laws, applicable only to registered firms, exacerbated the issue. Inadequate state investment in education left workers with limited skills, confining them to the informal economy. India must now forge a path to overcome this informality legacy. Once the four labour codes are notified, the manufacturing units that operate in the informal space would find it easier to navigate their way to formal settings. This would be beneficial not only for the informal sector, but also for the workers employed by these manufacturing units.

(3) Neglected Past of Health and Early Childhood Education Investments: Previously, India did not prioritize early child health and education, but now, a transformation is taking place. An expanding body of research highlights that experiences in early life significantly impact adult health, cognitive abilities, and professional accomplishments across both developed and developing nations. It has been demonstrated that children who enjoy good health from conception to age five ultimately become healthier adults. Furthermore, they achieve higher levels of education, earn more income, and contribute substantially to the economy. India's focus on early child health and education was limited in the past, but a paradigm shift is now underway. The troika of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Women and Child Development are entrusted with this responsibility. The government's prioritization of children's health through targeted interventions like POSHAN Abhiyaan and Mission Poshan 2.0 demonstrates a commitment to addressing malnutrition and fostering wellness in children, adolescents, and mothers. These comprehensive initiatives, which emphasize maternal nutrition, infant and young child feeding norms, and treatment of acute malnutrition, harness the power of technology, traditional knowledge, and community involvement to achieve a lasting impact. With millions benefiting from these programs, the government is taking critical steps to create a healthier, more resilient future for the nation.

India stands at the cusp of a unique opportunity to harness its demographic dividend, reminiscent of Kino's pearl in Steinbeck's classic novel. To seize this potential, India must invest in its human capital, bridging the gap between skills imparted by educational institutions and the skills needed for the job market, adopting more effective vocational training programs, and transitioning to a formal economy.

"I Am Here Because Donald Trump Raped Me": US Writer Testifies Before Jury

The New York author who claims Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s testified in graphic detail about the alleged assault on the second day of the trial over her lawsuit.

E. Jean Carroll, a journalist and former Elle magazine advice columnist, says she kept silent about the alleged attack for decades out of fear that Trump would destroy her if she went public. On Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, she testified that she filed the suit to set the record straight.

"I am here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it he said it didn't happen," Carroll, 79, said under questioning by her lawyer. She added: "He shattered my reputation and I'm trying to get my life back."

The jury of six men and three women will decide if Trump, 76, is liable for sexually assaulting Carroll more than two decades ago and defaming her last year by claiming on social media that she fabricated the attack to sell a book. He has denied wrongdoing and argues the case is part of a broader politically motivated "witch hunt."

His lawyer, Joe Tacopina, signaled during his opening argument on Tuesday that he'll seek to undermine Carroll's story by presenting evidence that she is motivated by an animus toward Trump and that she waited too long to come forward with her claim if it were true.

The jury of six men and three women will decide if Trump, 76, is liable for sexually assaulting Carroll more than two decades ago.

Carroll, asked to describe how the alleged assault unfolded, testified that she and Trump ran into each other at the luxury department store while shopping. She told the jury she agreed to help him pick out a gift for a woman.

Kidding Around

Carroll said Trump asked her to go to the sixth-floor lingerie department, where they eventually found a lacy bodysuit that he jokingly suggested she try on. She said she told him he should try it on instead, thinking he would put the bodysuit on over his pants.

Carroll told the jurors she agreed to go into a dressing room with him, thinking it was an amusing moment, "sort of like a Saturday Night Live sketch."

She said Trump then "shut the door and shoved me against the wall. He shoved me so hard my head banged. I was extremely confused and suddenly realized that what I thought was happening was not happening."

She testified that she didn't scream but instead fought to get away, even though Trump is much larger than she is.

'I Can Still Feel It'

"My whole reason for being alive in that moment was to get out of that room," she said. She said she was "trying to wriggle out from under him, but he had pulled down my tights" and assaulted her with his fingers, "which was extremely painful. He put his hand inside of me and curved his finger. As I'm sitting here today I can still feel it."

"I'm proud to say I did get out," Carroll told the court. "I got my knee up and pushed him back."

She fought back tears as she described the guilt she felt over why she went into the dressing room with Trump.

"I was ashamed," she said. "I thought it was my fault. Because I was flirting with him."

Trump on Wednesday morning blasted Carroll's lawsuit in a post on social media, calling the case a "SCAM" and deriding his accuser as "Ms. Bergdorf Goodman."

The case is Carroll v. Trump, 22-cv-10016, US District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).

US Couple Arrested For Tying Down And Forcibly Tattooing Their Children

A mother and a stepfather in US' Texas have been arrested after they allegedly tattooed their children by force, then tried to remove the tattoos once authorities got involved, New York Post reported.

As per an arrest affidavit obtained by KTRE, Megan Mae Farr, 27, and Gunner Farr, 23, tied down their 9-year-old and 5-year-old children and forcibly gave them tattoos. While one received a tattoo on the foot, the other child received one on the shoulder, according to the report. The investigation alleges that the children were tied down with a rope, their mouths covered with tape and a rag covered their eyes.

However, when the biological father and stepmother saw the tattoos on the children, they reported the matter to Child Protective Services (CPS).

When the couple came to know that CPS was looking into the matter, they tried to evade arrest by forcibly removing the tattoos. They tried to cover the tattoos by "cutting, scraping, and scrubbing" the areas, and removing them by rubbing the tattoos with lemon juice.

''There were visible injuries on the child at the specific location of the tattoo and it appeared that the flesh was removed from the body at the tattoo location and this happened about the time that CPS got involved in the allegations of the child abuse,'' interim Zavalla Police Chief Lt. James Denby told KTRE.

On Monday, both parents were arrested and charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint.

While Megan Mae Farr was charged with two counts of injury to a child and unlawful restraint, Gunner Farr was charged with one count of unlawful restraint and one count of injury to a child.

The children have since been placed in the care of CPS and investigations are ongoing.
